Roanna Wells is a Sheffield, UK based fine-artist.
“My practice is an intuitive expression of quiet order, subtle structure and collected detail, which is offset by a curiosity into the spontaneous and accidental marks or residues of nature, human interaction and the hand made process.” (Wells, nd a).

Works
Making links to my drawings and generating ideas for approaching work.
I’m so thrilled that one of the artists we are asked to study is Roanna Wells, as I have long been a fan of her work, specifically her pieces comprising tiny seed stitches on wool, her Interpersonal Spatial Arrangement series. In these pieces, Wells takes aerial photographs of crowds, deconstructing them to represent only people, as tiny seed stitches.
“Inspiration for these is not only taken from the geographical context and current topical relevance of the image, but also the aesthetic composition of the emerging patterns” (Wells, quoted in Hall, nd)
The fascinating aspect of this work is the use of negative space. Something to add to the list of drawing options, which I usually overlook.
